Riley County Fair Pedal Pull

First of all, I feel terrible that my videoing abilities faltered when Isaac had his turn at the pedal tractor pull.  I did not even get a picture of him.  I usually just make still shots from the video I shoot, but some how I only videoed the ground briefly when he was pulling. I don't even have a picture of him standing in line waiting, because I was with Isabella.  We were all terrible disappointed this morning when we went to look at the videos from last night.

Isaac had a lot of competition in his age group at the pull and ended up fourth for the five year old division  He was not too disappointed that Isabella qualified to compete at the state fair and he did not.  She finished in second place for the four year old division!  Way to go little chick!

First Cavity

Isaac and Isabella had their routine six month dental check up last week.  Isaac had his first cavity.  YIKES!  It was in between two molars on the bottom.  He did a REALLY good job handling getting it filled yesterday.  We did not tell him they were going to give him a shot.  The plan was just to numb that tooth with some gel and then they would give the tooth some sleeping medicine.  Getting the sleeping medicine, the numbing shot, was the worse.  He cried some while this was happening.  I can't say I blame him, it just hurts! He still does not know they gave him a shot.  We had him close his eyes to keep the bright light out when they did this part.  It worked!
The lesson learned is that even though he does a great job brushing his teeth, we still need to floss.  Especially between those molars in the back.  He decided have me floss his teeth each night is much less painful then getting a cavity filled.  He let Isabella know this, too.

No Need for Toys When You Have a Box

We recently had to replace our dishwasher. Of course the munchkins were not so excited about that, because that just means they have to unload it after each use. What they were anxiously awaiting for was the box that it came in. They had it all planned out about cutting windows and doors in it. To say the least, it has been several weeks since the dishwasher was installed, but that box still has not made it to the recycling trailers. It has been reinvented many times as a machine shed, house, animal home, a fishing hole, and the latest was just a box to roll your sibling around in. What cheap indoor entertainment when it is over 100 degrees outside.

I think all we need on the Christmas list is a new refrigerator. It would serve the entire family. The munchkins get a really BIG box to play pretend in, I get a fridge with a bottom freezer, and Matt gets one that holds more ice cream. It sounds like the perfect gift all around!

Gymnastics

Isaac and Isabella have been taking gymnastics again this summer.  They are definitely not Olympic bound, but they both enjoy it!

Father's Day

Father's Day was over a month ago, but I just realized I never posted pictures of our day.  We started the day off by going to mass in Topeka.  Then we took Matt to eat at Paisano's Italian Ristorante in Topeka.  (It is similar to the Olive Garden, but better!)  After a delicious lunch we headed to Gage Park for a train ride, a ride on the carousel, and a walk around the park.

Waiting for our train ride to begin.

Look there is a mama duck and her baby down there!

The mama duck put her little one in the grass when she saw Isaac and Bella.

Happy Father's Day!

Swimming Lessons

Our summer seems to be flying by TOO quickly.  Therefore, I had to get the munchkins into swimming lessons before the summer was over.  They have both improved greatly since the beginning of summer with their water skills.  They both now can float on their back.  Isaac does a pretty good job of swimming underwater for a very short distance.  Isabella has been right there making sure he doesn't learn any new tricks that she can't do.   Isaac was the proudest of himself for going off the low dive.  He did have a little help from Miss Kathy, his preschool teacher, she just happened to be swimming laps and walked him to the end of the board and then Miss Rachel, swimming teacher, could be there to catch him.  Isabella decided not to give the low dive a try.

Fourth of July

The Fourth of July was over a week ago so I thought I better get my pictures posted from this great weekend!

Isaac and Isabella still did not make it to the fireworks in Wamego.  Earlier in the day we took them to the tractor/engine show and the car show in the park and then in the evening we went to the parade.  However, after coming home to grab a bite to eat they both fell asleep shortly after eating.  There was no waking them up.  They both slept soundly through being carried upstairs and having their P.J.'s put on them.  Isaac woke up around 3:00 am and came in crying to our room that he missed the fireworks.  Isabella had the same reaction in the morning about missing them.  Matt and I enjoyed them from our deck again this year.  Maybe next year we will make it?

Play Set Looks New Again!

One of my summer projects was to get the play set stained.  Finally, I have this checked off my list. Isaac of course wanted to be a big help and with the power washing.  He did a pretty good job.  As you can see from the photos he was into the task with his rubber boots on, protective eye wear, and of course his work gloves.  We did let Isabella and Isaac help stain the first day, but sometimes too much help is TOO much.  I then changed my staining time to 6:00AM.  Isaac and Isabella came out and ate breakfast on the deck while I worked.  This was a much better set up for all.

All that is left to do is to reattach the slide and all the yellow handles on the various parts of the clubhouse. Lets hope this last for a couple of years, because it literally took more time to stain the play set than to stain the deck last summer.  I do have to say that we now have the best looking play set in the neighborhood!
